Maha Shivratri is the another famous Hindu festival celebrated with enthusiasm in India and outside India too. This festival is generally celebrated on the month Maagh (February or March) according to the Hindu Lunar Calendar. In the year 2021 Maha Shivratri will be celebrated on 11 March.
On this auspicious day, the Hindu temples around India is decorated beautifully and devotees of Lord Shiva in large numbers, visit Shiv temple and offer prayers to seek blessings from Lord Shiva.

1. Shiv Khori:
Shiv Khori is one of the Famous Shrine of Hindus dedicated to Lord Shiva which is very popular shrine all over India which situated in Reasi District of Jammu & Kashmir state in India. The distance of Shiv Khori is about 120 km from Jammu, and 80km from Katra. Many of devotees visit here on the eve of Maha Shivratri to seek blessings from Lord Shiva.
2. Ranbireshwar temple:
Rabireshwar is very famous temple situated in the heart of Jammu city dedicated to Lord Shiva located opposite to Jammu & Kashmir civil secretrait on Shalamar road in Jammu. You will see 12 Shiva lingams inside the temple and also you will see the premises of temple divided into 2 halls which are decorated by images of Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya. On the eve of Maha Shivratri many of devotees visit here to seek blessings from Lord Shiva.
3. Peer Kho Cave temple:
Peer Kho temple is the another famous temple to visit on the eve of Maha Shivratri in Jammu city to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva situated on the banks of Tawi River.
4. Aap Shambu temple:
Aap Shambhu Temple located in Roopnagar area of Jammu City, is an ancient temple having a self manifested lingam in its sanctum. This is an ancient temple in the city huge numbers of devotees throng the place to offer homage to Lord Shiva in the eve of Maha Shivratri.
5. Purmundal temple:
Purmandal Temple is famous temple near Jammu city at a approximate distance of 30 Kmart. Purmundal temple is also known as ‘Chhota Kashi’ and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Here you will see multi shiv lingams at the temple and most of the lingam have originated naturally.
An annual 3 day Purmandal Mela is organized during Shivratri to celebrate the marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati. Many of devotees attend this 3 day Mela.
6. Sudhmahadev: Sudhmahadev temple is totally magical and awesome dedicated to Lord Shiva at Chenani in Udhampur district . This temple is approximately 110 kms away from Jammu city. At Sudhmahadev you will see the original shiva trishul in the temple which attracts a lot of religious tourists from within and outside the state. Many devotees from udhampur town and Jammu city visit Sudhmahadev temple on Maha Shivratri.
