So today I am recommending Jammu city which is also known as “The city of Temples” and is one of the finest places in India to know about the culture of India. Apart from The city of  Temple, Jammu city is known for Dogra culture all over the world. So, these famous religious places somehow reflects the true culture of Dogra culture.

Bawe waali mata: Bawe wali mata is one of the most popular religious place after Sri Mata Vaishnodevi in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Bawe waali mata is a temple dedicated to  Goddess Kali and is built within the premises of Bahu Fort on the banks of Tawi River. A large number of devotees within the state and from near by states to visit the temple.  Bawe waali mata temple is a small temple so only a few devotees can enter at  time.

Raghunath temple: This temple is the largest shrine complex in North India situated in the heart of Jammu city. You will see seven beautiful temples inside the main complex. The main temple is dedicated to Lord Rama (the eight incarnation of Lord Vishnu), while the remaining are the abodes of different Gods and Goddesses allied with the legendry Ramayana.

Points to know: Mobile phones, camera and other electronic items are not allowed inside the temple. Outside the temple you will see the local handicraft market from where you can buy dry fruit, kashmiri shawls etc which are popular all over the world.

Ranbireshwar temple: This is the another famous temple situated in the heart of Jammu city dedicated to Lord Shiva located opposite to Jammu & Kashmir civil secretrait on Shalamar road in Jammu. You will see 12 Shiva lingams inside the temple and also you will see the premises of temple divided into 2 halls which are decorated by images of Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya. The main attraction point of this temple is the 7.5 feet tall Shiva lingam placed in the center of the temple and is of black marble stone.

Peer kho cave temple: This is the another temple in Jammu city dedicated to Lord Shiva situated on the banks of Tawi River. Here you will see two caves inside the complex. Path to first cave is very narrow that one has to bend to get in and A number of marble paved stairs take you to the first cave, and one has to bend to get into the cave, as the path is narrow and the second cave is being a larger one, where devotees can stand comfortably inside to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. Also the Shivalinga you will see in temple here is believed to be self-manifested.

Mahamaya temple: Mahamaya Temple is an important site dedicated to a local female freedom fighter, Mahamaya, belonging to the Dogra community. Mahamaya temple is  the another temple situated on banks of the Tawi River from where tourists can easily sight the Bahu Fort. The view of Jammu city from the temple is amazing.

Har ki Pauri Temple: This temple is also situated on the banks of River Tawi prior to Bahu Fort. To reach at Har ki Pauri temple you need to divert the road just before Bagh -e-Bhau. This is the only temple in Jammu city where you can sit and enjoy the amazing view surrounding the banks of Tawi River.

Purmandal temple: Purmandal Temple is  dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati situated at a distance of about 30 km from Jammu city. Purmandal temple it is located on the bank of River Devak and is also known as “Chota Kashi”. Here you will see multi shiv lingams at the temple which have originated naturally. An annual 3 day Purmandal Mela is organized during Shivratri to celebrate the marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati.

Baba Sidh Goria: Baba Sidh Goria is a very popular shrine situated at Swankha village in Samba district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is just 35 kms away from Jammu city. You will see sarovar inside the temple where devotees take a dip in it. It is believed that Baba ji showers blessings on  their devotees who keep faith and confidence on this sacred place. Also every year  annual public mela is organised at sidh swankha and dangal also, which lasts for seven days in which devotees are not only from J&K but also from Punjab, Haryana, UP and others parts of the country are taking part. Special pooja is being organised during these seven days period and the people enjoy every variety and attraction of mela after having darshan in the shrine.
