Janmashtami is one of the most widely Hindu festivals celebrated in India to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna. In the year 2019, Janmashtami festival will be celebrated on 24th August.

Hindus celebrate Janmashtami by fasting, singing, praying together, preparing and sharing food, and visit near by Krishna temple.

In Jammu and Kashmir, people celebrate Jamashtami festival with kite flying in the day and in evening people visit temples to seek blessings from Lord Krishna.

So today in my blog I will be sharing places to visit in Mathura and Vrindavan to celebrate the Janmashtami festival.

To enjoy the vibes of Janmashtami in Mathura you can easily reach by train or by road from Delhi and nearby places. From Delhi, Mathura is 180 kms away. To celebrate Janmashtami festival, Mathura is an ideal getaway for Delhi people and people from other cities who are visiting Delhi can visit there.

So I will be sharing a places to visit in Mathura in 1 or 2 day during the Janmashtami festival.

Gokul : Gokul is Situated on the banks of the Yamuna river and is frequented visited by pilgrims, especially during Janmashtami festival.

Govardan hill : After visiting Gokul, next place you need to visit is Govardan hill. Govardhan hill is a place of full natural beauty. According to hindu mytholgy lord krishna had lifted Govardhan hill in a finger to save Mathura from heavy rain.A statue is made here to show that incident. The architecture is extra ordinary. Devotees visiting Mathura took the whole parikrama around the hill which took 4-5 hours by barefoot but nowadays you can complete parikrama via rickshaws. While doing the parikrama you will able to explore many beautiful temples and I recommend you to visit Govardhan hill during Janmashtami festival.

Banke Bihari Temple : Banke Bihari is the must visit temple to feel the vibes of Janmashtami festival in Mathura. Banke Bihari temple is the most famous temple in India dedicated to Lord Krishna. Not only Indians do visit here but Krishna devotees from all over the world visit Banke Bihari temple during their visit to India. You can’t miss visit Banke Bihari temple if you are planning to visit in Mathura during Janmashtami festival. The temple is beautifully decorated and light up during the festival.

Prem Mandir Vrindavan: If you are planning to visit Prem mandir then schedule it to visit in evening because the architecture of this temple looks beautiful in lights glorifies its spectacular look. In this temple you will see various scenes from Lord Krishna life.

Barsaane: Barsaane is famous place dedicated to birth place of Radha and is approximately 35 Kms away from Mathura where devotees can easily visit via a regular bus service from Mathura. Nice hilly top temple for Radha Ji. Must vist temple in Mathura for worship and pleasant view of Barsana village from top. To reach at temple you need to climb around 100 steps and lassi of Barsaane is very popular and their is a saying devotees visiting Barsaane temple must have a taste to sweet lassi to make your visit more memorable.

Nandgaon: After visiting all these places next place you need to visit is Nanadgaon which is 8 Kms away from Barsaane and approximately 45 Kms away from Mathura. This place is named after Lord Krishna’s father Nand ji and mother Yashoda who had their permanent residence built at this place after moving from Gokul. Lord Krishna lived here with their parents. So it will be a must visit place for Krishna devotees to visit Nandgaon to enjoy the Janmashtami festival.
